Recently renovated Foodie Fresh Market in Monte Verde is a must-go. I noticed it for the first time last September when I was walking to the gym and just from the appearance alone I could tell it was a winner. Then, when I finally went in to check it out – I was immediately obsessed. Everything they offer is natural and organic. While it is a small shop, you can definitely find a lot of great necessities – fruits and vegetables, organic, raw honeys, goji berries, etc.
It is a family run business, and the son is motivated by the idea of creating a modern, fresh market that allows people to be creative with the foods they want to eat and stay away from the monotonous, boring dishes. They used to just be an average, small, fruit and vegetable market, until the son realized that they needed to keep up with the times and start offering more variety and specifically, meals for customers to enjoy there.
Foodie is the perfect place to go for a quick, healthy lunch. You can get a big salad for only 5 euro (they usually switch up the ingredients, but I frequently have one with tomatoes, cheese, tuna, carrots, EVOO, and vinegar). Basically, anything that you want that they have, they will make for you or incorporate into your meal.
Another big plus and definite reason to visit is for their fruit and vegetable smoothies. (P.S. - I am SO happy that fresh fruit/vegetable juices have finally caught on here in Italy!!) And – if you are as indecisive as I am, the owner either helps you figure out what you would like or he takes care of it himself, leaving you with a yummy surprise.
If there’s one thing I super miss about America, it is being able to get cold pressed juice – without fail, every Sunday on my Whole Foods stop, I get either a Blue Print Cleanse juice or a Suja juice (both are amazing P.S., if you haven’t tried) – BUT they are also a hefty $10 bucks! (Sorry Dad!). So, not only am I able to somewhat satiate my thirst for similar types of juices, but they are also significantly less expensive here.
