This semester I discovered the grocery store NaturaSi. And let me tell you, it was basically life changing. It’s as if the founder read my mind for the past 4 years, and finally thought it would be nice/funny to create this supermarket in my last year here. It essentially has everything I could ever want or expect from a health food store in Rome. Granted, it’s obviously no Whole Foods, but my expectations were never that high to begin with. I’m a realist.
But seriously, everything there is healthy and organic - even their beauty products/laundry detergents/cleaning products are all organic.
[Check out their website for more information and locations: http://www.naturasi.it/it/ ]
You can get all types of goodies there, such as: Almond milk, coconut milk, coconut cooking milk, quinoa, goji berries, flaxseed, chia seeds, fresh fruits and vegetables, mint!!!, coconut oil, almond butter, bee pollen!!, GHEE.
In case you didn't notice, GHEE is in all uppercase for a reason– basically because it’s a really awesome and healthy clarified butter that I CANNOT believe they have in Rome. I saw it and had to have it. Shameless to say, I first heard of ghee on an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians (one of my guilty pleasures, sue me) when Kourtney was drinking – yea, you read that right – drinking melted Ghee and I was all like Google search that ish ASAP. (because in case you didn't know, Kourtney is a queen of all things healthy, so I knew this had to be some bomb stuff).
After googling it, I went to Whole Foods and bought it immediately. Since then, I’ve been an avid fan of Ghee and recommend it to anyone.
SOOO what is this Ghee stuff exactly and why is it so healthy for you???

Ghee is, "A staple in traditional Indian cooking and Ayurvedic medicine, ghee is made through a simple process of boiling butter and then pouring off the butterfat,leaving behind the proteins (casein and whey) and the milk solids (which includes lactose). What’s left is also known as clarified butter." (www.culinarynutrition.com)

++ Helps in preventing weight gain as well as aiding in weight loss
++ Works as a lubricant of the connective tissue, thus helping flexibility
++ Contains Vitamins A, D, E and K which are good for brain and bone health
++ Immune Booster

There are different ways to use Ghee - you can use it as a substitute for butter or oil while cooking - or another way I usually enjoy it is on a piece of toasted ezekiel bread with chopped raw garlic on top...it's like a pseudo garlic bread but healthy!
